Hello Crafters,
I made this adorable backpack for a friend’s daughter who was just starting school this year.
I saw the backpacks posted on a few blogs, but they were all smaller in size. I wanted a larger one so I could put more chocolate in it! The finished size is 5 x 3. This is basically a 2, 5, 7, 10 box that I altered a bit. So, you can make it with one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock!
Here are the directions:
Box: cardstock cut at 6 1/2 x 11 and scored at 2, 5, 7, 10, turn and score at 1 1/2
cut on the score lines up to the 1 1/2 score and cut off corner at the 10″ score line
Top flap: cardstock cut at 3 x 2 and scored on one long side at 1/4
Small front pocket: cardstock cut at 2 1/2 x 2 and scored at 1/4 & 1/2 on both short sides and
one long side. Cut off two corners where 1/2 scores meet.
Small pocket flap: cardstock cut at 2 x 1 1/2 and scored at 1/4 & 1/2 on one long side
Patterned paper and embellishments to your liking
Set your eyelets and insert ribbon for backpack straps. Knot the ribbon on the inside so it stays in the eyelets.
Apply red line tape on the outer edge of 10″ score mark and assemble box. Fold in two small bottom pieces and then the two bigger pieces. Apply red line tape on one longer side and adhere. Now, pinch the top of the box together and push in the sides.
Round bottom corners of flap and punch two holes in score mark. Insert ribbon for handle and knot inside. Apply red line tape along 1/4″ and adhere flap.
Round bottom corners of small flap. Using red line tape, assemble small pocket, attach flap, and adhere to backpack.
Thanks for stopping by today. Have fun making your backpacks!
